Last night this chick I waited on kept apologizing. She may have been kinda tipsy, but she did it five or six times in under a minute.

Stated what she needed -- then said, "I'm sorry."

Answered a question I asked -- then stammered, "I'm really sorry."

Finally, I went:

"Why?"

"Because I don't want you to go out of your way," she said.

"Well, I'm not," I said, and smiled. "You should save apologies for people you've really screwed over ... like, if you hit someone with your car? That would be a good time to say I'm sorry."

She said, "OK ... I'm really sorry."
